- $25 (prepaid) Please register at least 2 days before the event
- Space is limited! Snag your ticket today!
- All supplies/materials included
- Sips & Snacks provided!
- Have a favorite topic or book/s? Bring ‘em!
- One lucky BOP (Blackout Poet) will win Michael's book "Finding Light in the Darkness: a collection of blackout poetry"
What is Blackout Poetry, you ask?
Blackout Poetry is a mixture of poetry and art made by taking any form of printed text and blacking out the unwanted words to create a new poem or statement. Standard techniques usually involve a black sharpie marker, but have evolved into other traditional (and even untraditional) types of art mediums. I find it to be a look into the subconscious mind, a form of therapy if you will, that can promote mindfulness and creativity that can help overall well-being and mental health. And it's creative and fun to do!
Everyone is Creative, including YOU!
Learn how to take old discarded book pages and turn them into thoughtful, creative works of visual poetry. The process is quite simple and meditative, making this workshop fun for ANYONE...no poetry or art experience is required! We'll provide the materials and instructions. All you need is you! You will be amazed at what emerges after you have finished with this interactive Blackout Poetry workshop! Perfect for first timers! If you are a Blackout Poetry Veteran, come learn new techniques!
Wrapping it up!
At the end of the workshop we'll have a fun round-table discussion/viewing of everyone's artwork! Feel free to read your blackout poems and what they mean to you or just simply enjoy being in the company of others and see what everyone came up with! Order forms will also be available if you would like to turn any of your blackout poems into an 8"x8" or 5"x7" custom canvas print for only $20 each! (Canvas orders must be paid for separately at the end of class and will be ready for pickup at the shop along with your original artwork within 2-3 weeks)
We are keeping this workshop small so we can practice physical distancing and give you great personal attention. If you are sick, please call us and reschedule. We are asking all participants to wear a mask unless you are medically unable to do so.
